Bounty® Paper Towels Helps Pick Up Adoption Fees at Best Friends Animal Society and 300 Animal Shelters Across the Country During National Pet Adoption Weekend May 20-22
What better time to adopt a pet than on National Pet Adoption Weekend (May 20 – 22)? If you need an extra incentive, Bounty will pick up pet adoption fees at Best Friends Animal Society lifesaving centers, as well as pick up or help with adoption fees at 300 network partner shelters, across the country.
The promotion could not have come at a better time, according to Julie Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society. “May is one of the highest intake months for animal shelters in America. The sad truth is that shelters get overcrowded when pets aren’t adopted quickly enough and this can put lives at risk,” saysCastle. “That’s why we’re grateful that Bounty wanted to quickly come to the rescue and pick up or help with adoption fees this month. It’ll help Best Friends and our shelter partners get more pets into homes atthis critically needed time.”
Adoptions will be free at Best Friends in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Houston, Northwest Arkansas, and Kanab, UT. All pets will be fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go home.
Currently, there are approximately 100,000 more pets at-risk of being killed in shelters than at this time last year due to recent problems such as staffing shortages, limited shelter hours, decreased volunteers, and reduced adoption events. For every pet Bounty helps get adopted, it can save two lives: the pet who goes home and the one who now has space to come to a shelter.
Bounty was happy to assist. “As every pet parent knows, pet messes are no ordinary messes, which is why you shouldn’t use an ordinary paper towel.” says Janette Yauch, Vice President, Bounty. “We are honored to join Best Friends Animal Society and its network partner shelters to help save the lives of pets while helping pet parents everywhere.”
To help potential adopters, Best Friends suggests going over the below information so you well prepared before bringing a new pet home:
- Is your new pet is up-to-date on vaccines?
- Has your pet has been tested for heartworm disease and/or been on a consistent preventative? Ask which heartworm prevention medication the animal has been taking, and whether the medication has been well tolerated.
- Has your new pet has been on flea and tick prevention? Again, ask for the specifics of which preventative has been given and whether any side effects were noticed.
- What food has your new pet has been eating? If you’ll be feeding the animal something different, you’ll want to make a gradual transition to the new diet to avoid gastrointestinal upset.
- Ask about any pre-existing medical conditions and request copies of medical records to share with your veterinarian.
- What type of activity level your pet exhibits and what kind of exercise/training he or she needs.
- Whether your new pet likes meeting other pets or prefers to be an only pet.
What kind of family or home your pet lived at in the past to see if they are a good fit for your household.
