In a heartfelt tribute to honor and remember the remarkable lives of Judy Fridono and Ricochet, a special celebration of life event will be held on May 11, 2024, at La Jolla Shores in San Diego. This event aims to highlight the enduring impact, love, and legacy that Judy and Ricochet have left us all.
Calling San Diego home, Judy and Ricochet’s healing energy, emotional support, and unwavering spirit was felt by all and brought joy and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing them. Raising over a million dollars, they had a profound impact on individuals and groups as diverse as Veterans groups, schools and surfing organizations. Their work with others in need was repeatedly noticed, by both local media and international sources who covered their incredible journey as it unfolded.
The Celebration will begin at 9:30AM with an opening drum circle to commemorate the healing power of sound and will feature heartfelt speeches, memorable stories, and tributes. Renowned international sculptor and visionary of the National Service Animals Memorial, Susan Bahary will speak about the efforts to fulfill Judy’s wish for a permanent life-size bronze of the unique therapy surf dog Ricochet on her surfboard for the San Diego area, preferably at Del Mar Beach. This piece will honor Ricochet who passed away in Spring 2023 and all service animals, as well as Ricochet’s owner and trainer, the late Judy Fridono.
The celebration will conclude with a paddle out ceremony to symbolize their love of surfing and healing connection to the sea and a butterfly release to signify their beautiful journey and transformation. Surfers should bring their boards if they’d like to participate in the paddle out.
“We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the extraordinary lives of Judy and Ricochet, whose presence will forever be cherished in our hearts,” said Jennifer Volz, the event organizer.
